Canary Capital to Launch Staked CRO ETF

This filing marks a shift toward regulated DeFi exposure for U.S. investors, impacting CRO and potentially broader stake assets.

Canary Capital’s Initiative

Canary Capital’s filing of the Form S-1 with the SEC targets the creation of a Staked CRO ETF. The fund seeks to incorporate staking rewards besides spot price tracking. Crypto.com will act as the custodian for CRO.

Eric Anziani, President and COO of Crypto.com, emphasized, “ETFs have been an effective means for broadening investor participation in crypto and further integrating digital and traditional finance capabilities. We are tremendously excited to see this important step being taken in building towards all investors in the U.S. having the opportunity to engage with CRO through an ETF with Canary Capital.”

Staking and Custodianship

Foris DAX Trust Co. will maintain the CRO custodianship, with staking handled via validated infrastructure providers. The move could influence the CRO token’s market dynamics, showcasing the potential for expanding regulated on-chain yield access. Effects might extend beyond CRO, potentially influencing related staking tokens like ETH and SOL.

Historically, such ETF filings have correlated with increased asset legitimacy and liquidity changes. The 28-day unbonding period for CRO staking highlights challenges in liquidity management, yet points to growing market interest in integrated price and yield vehicles.

Market Implications

Potential outcomes include expanded DeFi opportunities for U.S. investors and enhanced market legitimacy for staked tokens. The Staked CRO ETF could pave the way for future staked asset ETFs, shaping regulatory and market landscapes.
