September has been a great month for XRP. The coin jumped over 100% in less than 48 hours fueled by xRapid hype. Now the cryptocurrency could be in for another price surge after it was announced that content creators on some of the Internet’s biggest platforms will now be able to accept tips or payments in Ripple’s native token XRP directly from users. This has been made possible thanks to a new browser extension called Coil, which is the brainchild of former Ripple Lab’s chief technology officer Stefan Thomas.
“For decades, people have discussed the potential of micropayments to support content creators that would us away from the broken ad-supported web. Others have created subscription services that bundle content. But micropayments and subscriptions have always been built as closed systems, which fail to capture the huge variety of content of the web.” Thomas said.
Wikipedia, gaming streaming site Twitch, and Video streaming site YouTube are three internet giants involved in the Coil’s experimental trial.
Coil is the first technology that enables websites to make money through automatic micropayments from browsers. The Coil browser extension has unlimited potentials for future adoption, particularly in the area of subscription-based content.
“Think Spotify, think Uber, think ads on the web – or more ads on the web,” a Redditor posted a comment regarding Coil’s additional features, which includes lesser ads display and paywall bypassing. “This is just the beginning of Internet of Value! Coil is big, Coil is huge, Coil deserves as much attention as we’re giving Ripple.” He added.
The crypto space is growing rapidly every day bringing new features and innovations for every sector. There is, therefore, still room for innovation for every project. So Coil will continue to improve with future updates.
Coil could also lock horns with Brave (an Ethereum-based web browser), which offers similar services to its users via BAT tokens. However, Coil is a browser extension while Brave is a full-fledged browser.
