K-Pop Star Park Gyuri Denies Crypto Fraud Involvement

Park Gyuri, a member of KARA, testified in a Seoul court regarding allegations against her ex-boyfriend, Song Ja Ho, concerning the PicaCoin cryptocurrency project.

Park Gyuri’s testimony addresses her limited role in the PicaCoin project while denying involvement in fraudulent activities, impacting her public image and legal standings.

Song Ja Ho, founder of PicaCoin, faces accusations of fraud and market manipulation, involving non-existent art investments. Park clarified her role, focusing only on PR and art exhibitions.

“At the time, I didn’t have many entertainment activities and, as someone who enjoys art, I believed I was participating in a legitimate art exhibition and joint purchase business… I never profited from cryptocurrency.”

The accusations against Song Ja Ho and associates involve inducing investments in non-existent art, impacting trust in similar crypto projects. Park gained no profits from PicaCoin, receiving only a salary for her work.

The PicaCoin case highlights the potential risks associated with investments in crypto projects tied to celebrity endorsements, though its effects remain localized, with no broader market disruptions documented.

Broadly affecting the South Korean crypto scene, the case prompts scrutiny of celebrity-linked projects and regulations. The outcome may set precedents in crypto fraud investigations.

Future outcomes in the PicaCoin case could influence regulatory responses to celebrity involvement in cryptocurrency ventures, altering investor perceptions. The situation underscores risks of unverified investment ventures, sparking potential regulatory revisions.
