Attacker Drains $500K From Wallet, Then Loses $370K to MEV Bot

BY Nathan Sinclair·2 MIN READ·AUGUST 7, 2026

A wallet drainer’s payday did not last long. After pulling roughly $500K from a victim’s wallet, the attacker reportedly saw about $370K disappear to an MEV bot, turning one theft into a second loss before the dust settled.

The theft was reported as a wallet drain, not a wider protocol breach

PeckShieldAlert flagged the incident in an X post cited in the research brief, describing a wallet exploit involving roughly $500K and a later MEV-related loss of about $370K. Within the limited source set available here, that post is the closest thing to a primary incident alert.

CryptoBriefing’s report also framed the event as a targeted wallet drain, which keeps it closer to user-side security failures than to broader protocol exploits such as Verus-Ethereum’s $11.6 million exploit. That framing also makes it more comparable to recent wallet-security coverage such as Coinkite’s Coldcard post-mortem and the Coldcard firmware-flaw case.

The twist was the second hit

Coinpedia separately reported that the attacker later lost funds to an MEV bot after the initial drain, reinforcing the sequence laid out by PeckShieldAlert and CryptoBriefing. That second step is what turned a routine theft report into a stranger on-chain reversal. For related coverage, see MARA Reports $611M Q2 2026 Net Loss After Bitcoin Holdings Drop.

The move from an estimated $500K taken from the victim to an estimated $370K lost by the attacker is why the case stands out. Based on the figures carried by CryptoBriefing and Coinpedia, the reversal was large enough to cut deeply into the stolen haul.

What the evidence actually supports

The hard evidence in this brief is narrow: one PeckShieldAlert post and follow-on writeups from CryptoBriefing and Coinpedia. Those sources support a limited claim, a victim’s wallet was reportedly drained and the attacker then reportedly lost funds to an MEV bot, but they do not establish a wider protocol failure.

That narrower reading is still enough to explain the story’s appeal. The available reporting from PeckShieldAlert, CryptoBriefing, and Coinpedia all centers on the same reversal: the attacker did not just drain a wallet, the attacker also reportedly became the next loser in the same chain of events.
