Who this is for

  • Traders who used Drift for Solana perpetual futures and want to know the current state of the app.
  • Readers considering the DRIFT token or Drift vaults.
  • Anyone who wants a record of what the site showed on this date, not a promotion.

What we tested

  • www.drift.trade (marketing site) and its Update page
  • app.drift.trade (Trade, Earn, Vaults, Leaderboard, Swap, Portfolio)
  • docs.drift.trade
  • DeFiLlama page for Drift

What we did NOT test

  • No wallet was connected. We did not place any trade, deposit, withdraw or claim.
  • In our browser session the app showed a pause banner and an RPC error, so live order books, prices and funding rates did not load in our capture. That error is what our browser displayed; it is not proof that every route to the protocol is down. We cannot report real trading conditions.
  • We did not open the recovery posts themselves. We only saw their titles and dates on the Update page.
  • CoinMarketCap pages for DRIFT returned an error page at the address we tried, so no CMC data is included.

What Drift is, in plain English

Drift has been a Solana exchange for perpetual futures (contracts that track a price with leverage), plus lending, earn products and strategy vaults. The marketing page describes it as Solana's "premier trading hub". Today the most important fact is the state of the app: it shows a pause notice.

The most important thing we saw

Trade page with pause banner
Trade page with pause banner.

What you see: The Trade page for SOL-PERP. A banner across the top says Drift is being paused until further notice due to irregular activity in the protocol and points users to the project's X account for updates. The chart and order book are empty, price fields are gray placeholders, and a purple pop-up reads "RPC Connection Error. Unable to connect to Drift."

This banner appeared on every app page we opened (Trade, Earn, Vaults, Leaderboard, Swap and Portfolio). We cannot say from the page what the "irregular activity" was. Do not assume the app is usable.

Background: what Drift was before the pause

This is background only. The figures below come from DeFiLlama's Drift page, captured on 5 Nov 2026; the founding details are taken from the project's own public materials and were not independently confirmed in this session.

Drift was founded in 2021 by Cindy Leow and David Lu and grew into a large perpetual futures exchange on Solana. DeFiLlama still listed about $251M of TVL on Drift on 6 Nov 2026, during the pause, and lists $52.3M raised and $3.464B of cumulative DEX volume, and the app offered perps, spot swaps, lending, strategy vaults and a liquid staking token (dSOL).

What a perpetual future is

A perp lets you bet on a price (SOL, BTC, ETH) with leverage and no expiry date. You post collateral, choose Long or Short, and your profit or loss follows the price. A funding rate passes small payments between longs and shorts to keep the perp price near the real price. With leverage up to 101x on some markets (as the static preview on the site shows), a small price move can liquidate you. That is why perps are for experienced traders.

Drift's design in simple terms

Drift has described its design as a hybrid engine: a short auction when you place a market order, so outside market makers can compete to fill you, an order book for limit orders, and an insurance fund backed by trading fees. We could not confirm how this works today or capture the current fee table, because the app did not load in our test (see below). Check the official docs for current fees before trading.

Live numbers (captured November 5, 2026)

Metric Value Source
TVL $267.76m DeFiLlama
Fees 30d $1.15m DeFiLlama
Revenue 30d $32,972 DeFiLlama
Holders revenue 30d $0 DeFiLlama
Perp volume 30d $1.26b DeFiLlama
Open interest $115,520 DeFiLlama
Cumulative DEX volume $3.464b DeFiLlama
Market cap / FDV $9.64m / $12.98m DeFiLlama
DRIFT price $0.013 DeFiLlama
24h DRIFT volume $2.06m DeFiLlama
Total raised $52.3m DeFiLlama
Strategy Vaults TVL $2.54M app.drift.trade/vaults
Strategy Vaults total P&L -$7.99M app.drift.trade/vaults
Marketing page "Total Deposits" $805B (and $826B on a later load) drift.trade
Marketing page cumulative volume / trades $49B+ / 18.7M (and $50B+ / 19.2M later) drift.trade

The marketing counters changed between our two loads, so they are live tickers and not audited figures. The "$805B total deposits" figure is a cumulative claim, and it is not comparable to the $267.76m TVL on DeFiLlama. Open interest of $115,520 is tiny compared with $1.26b of 30-day volume. That gap fits with the pause banner, but we cannot confirm the cause from these numbers alone.

What the Update page and docs show

We could not verify what caused the pause. Drift's own banner only says "irregular activity in the protocol", and we found no primary source in this session that confirms amounts, attackers or financing deals, so this review does not repeat those claims.

What we did see on 5 Nov 2026:

  • Update page post titles: "Recovery Plan for Affected Users" (May 5, 2026), "Drift Recovery Update: June 3, 2026" and "DFX Claims and Redemptions are now open" (Oct 1, 2026). We saw the titles and dates only; we did not open the posts.
  • Docs title: the documentation site now reads "Introduction to Velocity", which suggests a rename or a new product, but the page we saw did not explain the relationship to Drift.
  • App state: the legacy app showed the pause banner and, in our browser, an RPC error.

The counterpoint is worth stating: recovery posts and a claims page show the team is still communicating and running a redemption process. A paused app is not the same as an abandoned one. Affected users should rely on the official posts for amounts and eligibility.

Why this matters for you

If you used Drift before, the official claim and recovery pages are the place to start. If you are new, the general lesson is that a protocol can be audited in code and still be paused for operational reasons, so admin controls matter as much as smart contract audits. Before you deposit into any perp DEX, ask who holds admin keys, how they are secured and what the insurance and recovery plan is.

What you see: The Update page lists announcements with these titles: "DFX Claims and Redemptions are now open" (Oct 1, 2026), "Drift Recovery Update: June 3, 2026" (the card itself is dated June 4, 2026, one day after the date in its title) and "Recovery Plan for Affected Users" (May 5, 2026). Other cards include "Incident Recovery Update" and "Introduction to Drift v3".

These titles show that Drift has been running a recovery process for affected users since at least May 2026. We did not read the posts, so we cannot describe the cause, the amounts or who is covered.

Docs home
docs.drift.trade opened a docs site titled "Introduction to Velocity".

What you see: It describes "a perpetual futures exchange and a money market, deployed as a single Solana program", and notes that spot trading has been removed from the program and "trading is perpetuals only". The left menu covers Getting Started, Trading, Borrow & Lend, Mechanics, Insurance Fund, Market makers, Risks, Liquidation and bankruptcy, and Guard rails.

We cannot tell from this capture how Velocity relates to the Drift app we saw, so we are not drawing a conclusion. Check the official announcements before assuming the two are the same product.

Market data

DeFiLlama Drift

How to use Drift today: step-by-step guide to what you can do

On 5 November 2026 the Drift app showed a pause notice, so this is not a trading tutorial. It is a walk through what I could safely check from a clean browser: the site, the status banner, the Earn pages, the wallet window and the docs. I did not connect a wallet and I did not trade. I have not verified the cause of the pause or the details of the Velocity rename, so I only describe what I saw on screen.

Step 1: Open the official site

First, I type drift.trade into the address bar myself. Drift's own pause banner points users to the project's official X account for updates, so I avoid links from replies or messages that claim to offer "recovery" or "airdrops". A typed address is safer than a link from social media.

Drift homepage
The marketing site: "Built for Traders.

What you see: Engineered for Execution." with Start Trading and Start Earning buttons, a purple "Launch App" button in the top right and a row of rate cards below the fold (USDC, SOL and wBTC). Nothing on this screen mentions the pause.

I notice that the homepage looks normal. That is the reason to never judge the service by this page alone.

Step 2: Check the status before you press Launch App

Next, I press Launch App and look at the very top of the page before I touch anything.

Drift trade page with the pause banner
Drift trade page with the pause banner.

What you see: The app on the SOL-PERP market. A thin banner at the top says Drift is being paused until further notice due to irregular activity in the protocol and points to the project's X account. The chart, order book and prices are empty, the size box shows 0.0 SOL and a purple "Connect Wallet" button sits in the order panel. A small notice in the corner says "Connecting to Drift".

What this means for you: if you see this banner, do not try to trade or connect your wallet to "fix" it. Read the announcements first.

Step 3: Read the Update page

Then I open the Update link from the official site.

Drift Update page
Drift Update page.

What you see: The Update page lists "DFX Claims and Redemptions are now open" (1 Oct 2026), "Drift Recovery Update: June 3, 2026" and "Recovery Plan for Affected Users" (5 May 2026). I read the titles only.

This is where an official claim or recovery step would be announced first. If a post is not here, I treat it as unconfirmed.

Step 4: See what the wallet window asks for

Now I press Connect in the top right, only to see the window. I do not select a wallet.

Drift Connect Wallet window
Drift Connect Wallet window.

What you see: A small "Connect Wallet" window over a dimmed app. It lists Solflare and a "More wallets" row with a wallet-icon strip. The app behind it still shows the pause banner and empty chart.

At this point I stop. Connecting to a paused app gives you nothing, and the risk is only on your side.

Step 5: Open the Earn page

After that, I open the Earn menu.

Drift Earn page with empty list
Drift Earn page with empty list.

What you see: "Drift Earn: Your deposits, always growing". Tabs: Explore & Compare, Borrow/Lend, Amplify and dSOL Liquid Staking. The product list says "No Assets Found".

The list is empty, so there is nothing to compare. It does tell me which products the app is built around.

Step 6: Look at the Borrow/Lend tab

Next, I switch to the Borrow/Lend tab.

Drift Borrow/Lend markets
Drift Borrow/Lend markets.

What you see: The Borrow/Lend tab with three market choices: Main Market, JLP Market and LST Market. The tables are grey placeholders and a red "RPC Connection Error" box in the corner says the app cannot connect to Drift.

In our browser session, the RPC error coincided with the missing numbers; we could not verify whether other routes to the protocol were available.

Step 7: Look at the dSOL staking tab

Then I open the dSOL Liquid Staking tab.

Drift dSOL liquid staking tab
Drift dSOL liquid staking tab.

What you see: The dSOL tab. A Stake / Unstake switch, a SOL box and a dSOL receive box (both 0.00), a "Rate" line without a value and a purple Connect button. A text box on the right says dSOL earns high yields and can be used as collateral.

The rate line is empty too. I would not stake anything while it is empty.

Step 8: Look at Strategy Vaults

I also look at the Vaults page.

Drift Strategy Vaults
Drift Strategy Vaults.

What you see: Strategy Vaults: $2.54M total value locked and total P&L of -$7.99M, but "No vaults found".

A negative total P&L next to a locked balance is a reason to be careful, even before you think about the pause.

Step 9: Read the docs and the new name

Last, I open docs.drift.trade. It sends me to a different address.

Docs titled Introduction to Velocity
Docs titled Introduction to Velocity.

What you see: The docs redirected to docs.velocity.exchange and show "Introduction to Velocity". The text describes a perpetual futures exchange and a money market on Solana, with sections for Getting Started, Trading, Borrow & Lend and Risk & Safety.

Tip: I could only confirm that the docs address now redirects to a site using the Velocity name. I could not confirm whether the trading app has been renamed or relaunched. Confirm any new app address through the project's verified X account before you connect a wallet.

Step 10: If you have a claim (not captured)

  1. Open the claim page only from the official Update post. (Not verified)
  2. Connect your wallet only on the official domain.
  3. Never enter a recovery phrase. A claim never needs one.

If you want to trade perps now, I would wait for a working app or use another exchange with a small amount and low leverage.

Security and risks

  • Protocol paused: the banner says the protocol is paused until further notice because of irregular activity. This is the highest risk item on this page.
  • Recovery process: the Update page lists recovery and redemption posts. Affected users should read the official posts, not a third-party review.
  • App not loading in our test: our browser showed RPC errors and empty data on every page we opened. Other users or RPC providers may see different results.
  • Falling TVL: DeFiLlama shows TVL well below its 2025 peak.
  • Vault losses: the Strategy Vaults header shows -$7.99M total P&L.
  • Token: DRIFT market cap is $9.64m, with $0 staked and $0 holders revenue on DeFiLlama.
  • Marketing vs reality: the site still advertises 101x leverage and "most reliable" trading.
  • Phishing: during incidents, fake claim sites are common. Only use links from the official X account and the official site.

Who should use it right now

  • Existing users with a claim: Check the official Update page and the DFX claim instructions, using only links on the official domain.
  • Traders looking for a perp DEX today: Our capture showed an app that does not load prices. Use the project's own announcements to find the current app address before trading.
  • New DeFi users: Skip it. Start with a simpler product.

How to protect yourself from fake "recovery" sites

When a protocol is paused or reports a security incident, scammers often copy the project's site and promise to restore funds. A short checklist:

  1. Type the official address yourself or take it from the project's verified X account.
  2. Never share a seed phrase. A claim process never needs it.
  3. Be careful with wallet signature requests that give a site permission to spend your tokens.
  4. Treat direct messages offering "recovery help" as scams.

Competitors

We did not test these platforms, so this is not a ranking. The table describes how each one is structured. Before choosing, compare current availability in your country, whether you keep custody of funds, fees, leverage limits and recent security history in each project's own docs, and check liquidity on DeFiLlama's derivatives rankings.

Fee figures were checked in each project's docs on 6 Nov 2026. A pause or exploit is the most important factor here: until Drift reopens and explains the cause in full, the other three are the practical alternatives for Solana-adjacent perp trading, but each carries its own smart-contract, oracle and liquidation risks.

FAQ

Is Drift working? On 5 Nov 2026 the legacy app showed a pause banner and an RPC error, and no prices loaded.

Why do the tablet and phone earn cards show 0.00% APY? No data loaded. It does not mean the real rate is zero.

Why does the marketing page say Total Deposits $805B? That number is out of line with DeFiLlama's $267.76M TVL, and the figure changed on reload. We could not verify the changing figure.

What does a negative strategy vault P&L mean? The Vaults page showed -$7.99M total P&L on $2.54M TVL. We did not investigate why.

Is DRIFT worth holding? DeFiLlama shows a market cap of $9.64M, price $0.013 and $0 staked. We do not give price advice.

Where do I find official updates? The Update page on the official site and the project's X account, as the banner says.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • The app displays a clear pause notice at the top of every page.
  • The project publishes update posts with dates.
  • The app layout is clean and the pages are logically organized.
  • Docs are detailed and mention risks, liquidation and an insurance fund.

Cons

  • The protocol is paused and the trading screens do not work.
  • No live prices, order books or vault lists in our capture.
  • Recovery posts show a past incident, and details were not reviewed here.
  • Marketing page claims do not reflect the current state.
  • Low token market cap and falling TVL.

Verdict

We cannot recommend using Drift right now. On November 5, 2026 the app showed that the protocol was paused, and none of the trading, earn or vault pages loaded real data. If you hold funds there, follow the official X account and the Update page for recovery instructions. If you are only researching, wait until the project reports that trading has resumed.

Rating: 1.5 / 5 for the state we saw. This reflects the paused app, not a judgment on the underlying code or the team.
