The former president of the United States, Bill Clinton, will be delivering an important speech at the impending Swell Conference which will be held by blockchain payment provider Ripple.
In a post published on the company’s blog on Tuesday, Ripple officially announced that the 42nd US president will be addressing the audience at the anticipated tech conference.
“President Clinton helped usher in a period of extreme growth and adoption of the Internet, shaping what it is today. He also established programs that bridged the “digital divide” and brought new technology to underserved communities around the world,” read the post.
The post also stated that “these learnings are perhaps more relevant now than ever before.”
“Like the Internet boom of the 90’s, we are at an impasse: digital assets and blockchain technology offer a way for value to be exchanged as quickly as information – creating more financial inclusion and economic opportunity. However, with this new technology comes potential for concern, requiring thoughtful policy to protect consumers from risk without hampering innovation.”
Clinton will not only be giving the keynote speech, he will also be taking part in a Q&A session hosted by Gene Sperling, the director and advisor of the National Economic Council under the Clinton and Obama presidencies. Ripple’s board of directors currently includes Sperling.
The Swell conference of this year is set to be held in Ripple’s native San Francisco, California, on the 1st and 2nd of October, and will present the following:
“Financial services companies using blockchain technology in production
New market opportunity in remittances, e-commerce and corporate marketplaces
Frameworks for regulating digital assets across Europe, Asia and the Middle East”
Last year’s conference (the first Swell) gathered important names from the traditional banking sector and blockchain world. Among the notable speakers at the event were Sir Tim Berners-Lee (World Wide Web creator), Dr. Ben Bernanke (Federal Reserve chairman from 2006-2014), and Ethereum’s creator Vitalik Buterin.
The 2017 conference was a highly anticipated event by investors, expecting Ripple to reveal major upcoming developments which would have potentially led to a major increase in XRP’s price. But to their disappointment, no such news were made, resulting in the immediate price dip of the token right after the event.
It remains to be seen if the 2018 conference will be any different if it will have any relevant information for the crypto and blockchain sector, and if the price of XRP will be positively impacted.
