Thailand is slowly but surely emerging as one of the most friendly countries for cryptocurrency, blockchain, and initial coin offering industry. Major Cineplex, the country’s biggest movie theater operator, proves this point by integrating cryptocurrency payments to allow cinephiles to buy everything from tickets to snacks.
The move comes as a result of Major Cineplex partnering with Swiss financial technology developer RapidzPay. The multiplex company is to deploy a digital payment system built by the latter partner to smoothly integrate cryptocurrency payments at PoS machines within the theaters, Thai publication The Nation reports.
As a result, cryptocurrency holders can send their payments to RapidzPay’s digital wallet via a mobile app. The multiplex payment ecosystem will therefore be able to accept both cryptocurrencies and fiat baht.
“With RapidzPOS and the RapidzPay mobile app, you’ll be able to buy any services and products from us, such as movie tickets, popcorn and other different products with cryptocurrency,” the multiplex’s director of marketing, Chanya Tamrongweenichai, declared.
Both companies looking towards the future
The partnership comes at a perfect time for the Swiss firm, as RapidzPay has just opened a new office in Bangkok a couple of weeks ago. Following the launch of its official wallet app, the Swiss firm aims to get a million active users in Thailand within the first year of operation.
Major Cineplex has its eyes set on the future with plans to expand its number of screens to 1000 by the year 2020. Currently, the company owns 678 screens across Thailand, as well as 7 in Cambodia, and 9 in Laos.
Considering just how big of a force Major Cineplex really is, this partnership is likely to prove extremely beneficial for the Swiss company.
